LOVE | HATE
LOVE – The year 2012 marked the 30th anniversary of Jim Dryden’s lifelong relationship with Wayne Groff. This series of abstract, narrative paintings celebrate Groff and Dryden’s lives together - from shared family backgrounds in rural North Dakota to their present day lives, filled with the love of family, friends, and one another.
HATE – 2012 was also the year in which Minnesotans voted on a constitutional amendment to permanently limit the rights and benefits of civil marriage to partnerships comprised only of one man and one woman. This amendment, would have affected Minnesotans of all beliefs and/or non-belief. The paintings in this exhibition were accompanied by a media presentation representing the views of those who would have introduced discrimination into our state constitution.
As we now know, LOVE WON!
